Never knew any of these details about Thakhti's politics. Thanx for the info.
I always thought he was a Nationalist and either a strong sympathizer or a member of the National Front.
It's not an exaggeration to say Takhti was the coolest world star Iran has ever had. Also not sure if anyone has won as many medals as Takhti. He remains unsurpassed on so many levels. He's was a kid from our old Tehran neighborhood of Khani Abad. His son lives in the US, married to Moniru Ravanipor, the great Iranian novelist.
It's interesting to see the considerable, alarming contrast between Takhti's sportsmanship, fairness and the current "Death" culture dominating our sports. Just recall how many egregious insults Messy had in his FB page, after he scored a goal against Iran. With the kids in street of Tehran carrying signs that read "Death to the referee!"
Takhti would have not been pleased with outrageously insulting reactions of sports fan in today's Iran.
