Damn if you do, damn if you don’t.

Some people on FB consider themselves an expert on everything, arbiter of morality, politics, economics, social, and cultural issues, and etc. they often post odd comments or express asinine opinions about every issue warranted or not. When the news of recent inhuman gas attack in Syria spread across the world, for example, they raised their voice in outrage. Why America and the other world powers are silent? Why they don’t respond? And, when America responded by bombing that military base in Syria, they came back and angrily attacked America for responding to that ruthless attack by Syrian dictator to make sure he will not attempt to gas innocent people again. They suddenly became Assad supporters. They accused the US of instigating a war with Syria. The claimed that the US acts aggressively in violation of all international laws by attacking a poor country, never mind the fact that the attack was targeted toward the base from which the chemical attacks were launched. The irony is that too often these people base their judgment on a clip they watched in Youtube or what they heard from their cousin!

Many of the same American bashers may have gone through massive time-consuming efforts and have incurred vast amount of expenses to obtain entry visa to the US or gain asylum. However, form the moment they settle down in this great country that has accepted them with open arms, they magically realize that this country is an aggressor, an imperialist, abuser of human rights, war monger,  and etc. They suddenly fall in love with the regime they escaped from and try to perpetuate it. To them, everything sucks about this country.

Some becomes an outright conspiracy theorist, who believe there is an American-crafted ploy behind ever unfortunate episode happens in the US and they are the only ones who know things best to the extent that some of them even believe that 9/11 was the work of the US administration!  When the administration, for instance, promotes production of energy from conventional source they cry outload for the environment and accuse the government of destroying the living environment. Meanwhile if price of gasoline raises above certain level, the same people poor into the street and complain about high price of energy. Damn if you do, damn if you don’t.

The point I am trying to make is that some people constantly moan and whine, no matter what. What do you think?

It's either that (opinions) or a status update of where they are or what they're eating ;) After all, besides religion, what the heck else is there to talk about? Based on your venting it sounds like you're overdue for a Newsfeed tune up; time to block some Facebook 'friends'.

Negativity bias is quite normal and from an evolutionary standpoint its been a critical survival skill. That said, I suspect that your newsfeed is made up of mostly immigrants - Middle Easterners at that. For that bunch, their relationship with US foreign policy towards the region can be summed up with this status update.

Some people on social media want to oppose whatever America does no matter what. And that is oxymoronic!
