The NBA's TV deal with ESPN and Turner runs through the 2024-25 season and is estimated to be worth a whopping $2.66 billion per year (goo.gl/hcfF1x). This financial windfall has not only enriched the NBA owners but labor as well. NBA players' salaries have steadily gone up and there's no let-up in sight...but is this sustainable?

Given ESPN's financial trajectory I would think that it's unlikely that they, or anyone else, renew/sign a TV deal under existing terms (goo.gl/Z5cu6L). I know that the NBA has diverse revenue sources, but TV rights is a huge part of their income and the catalyst for aggressive rise in salary cap. If I'm not mistaken, league owners and players can opt out of the existing NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement in 2022. If the league pushes for lower salaries, would this lead to another NBA lock-out?

While their next TV contract may not be nearly as lucrative, NBA expansion to Europe and especially China, where the sport is immensely popular, could potentially more than make-up the difference.

Edward Murrow was a great example of an independent journalist who worked for CBS in the 50's & had significant social impact.
George Clooney made a movie about him.
But that was then, more than half a century ago (feels like a century ago). Today's Society of Spectacles is a whole different ballgame.
For those curious about the nature & functioning of "The Society of Spectacles" there's a book with that title, check it out.

Above all else the world's largest media conglomerates are in the business of making money. News is packaged as entertainment, and well, Donald Trump is great theater that generates lots of money for the CNNs of the world. Plus, has corporate media ever really been the harbinger of truth?

The following passage sums up the real cause of Democratic party's defeat this past election:
Is the Democratic establishment so clueless it believes its party lost the presidential election because of the leaked John Podesta emails and FBI Director James Comey’s decision, shortly before the vote, to send a letter to Congress related to Clinton’s private email server? Can’t the Democratic leadership see that the root cause of the defeat was that it abandoned workers in order to promote corporate interests? Doesn’t it understand that although its lies and propaganda worked for three decades, Democrats eventually lost credibility among those they had betrayed?

While the immediate reaction after watching the skit would laughter, there's also a deeper gloomy truth to this comic act; which is the fact that most if not all of this buffoonery is very much true and about to happen and take place in front of our very eyes in a couple of months or so!

Patrick Cockburn and Robert Fisk, from "Independent", are two of the best sources for info on our region, what makes them so invaluable (besides their extensive first hand experience of the region) is how they're very familiar with the Western mainstream/corporate propaganda machines, and at the same time they also have no illusions about Assad or his allies.
Below is another good source for authentic info on Syria. The author in this interview also cites how "a lack of independent reporting makes it difficult to get an accurate picture of the reality on the ground in Aleppo."

Fake news, biased news, etc. "Journalists and public alike should regard all information about Syria and Iraq with reasoned scepticism."

What can't be disputed is that humans are the biggest threat to their own existence. Across the world we regularly exhibit hate, destruction, death...and for what? Power, ideology, religion, land, survival (fear of other humans), etc.?

We're so incredibly unevolved...
