Why Do So Many Incompetent Men Become Leaders?
PATRIARCHY, that's why.
Incidentally the word, concept or reality of Patriarchy is not mentioned a single time in this piece!

I really enjoyed absorbing this interview and admire Craig's self-awareness and philanthropic work. Here in Seattle there's a very well funded startup called OfferUp (offerupnow.com/) that is gunning for CraigsList and to a larger extent, EBay's business. I've been around too long to believe the annual hype (in tech circles) of CraigsList demise.

By the way, did you see the profitability estimates for CraigsList? $304M in profit on $381M in revenues. WOW?! Incredible margins.

Thanks for sharing this.
But there are many non-traditional, non-hierarchical cooperation and social structure that never get mentioned in here.
Many successful, large-scale cooperatives fall into this non-hierarchical category. In such non-traditional settings the premium is on consultation, bottom-up leadership and an emphasis on participatory decision making process.
Even in traditional, mainstream corporation there are various auditing committees and procedures making sure everyone stays in line and insuring corporate integrity.
One good example of a successful, ever growing, non-hierarchical cooperatives is the one below:
